Itinerary

THAILAND
24/12. Arrive Bangkok.
24-26/12. Bangkok sight-seeing (Wat Trinit and Wat Pho temples, Grand Palace).
26/12. Drive to Khao Yai National Park. Next seven nights at Khao Yai Garden Lodge (comfortable), with (quite long) daily drives to the park at about 700m.
27/12. Military base road; Trails 6 & 7.
28/12. Trails 6 &7; campground area. 
29/12. Trails 1 & 6; Maew Swat Falls road.
30/12. Joined by Liezel and John Lotter (South Africa). Trails 1 & 6; Elephant Cave (outside park) in evening.
31/12. Trails 1 & 7; Fields below Elephant Cave.
1/1. Military base road; Trail 6; Viewpoint inside park entrance.
2/1. Drive to Bangkok, stopping briefly at Wat Tampraprotisat (temple) and nearby fields, and marshes at Rangsit, north of the airport. Fly to Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel Manaslu.
 
NEPAL
 
Joined by Aqua Birding guide Rabindra Manandhar, who operates a bookshop in Khatmandu.
3/1. Phulchowki Mountain in Kathmandu Valley, summit, upper levels and mid-elevation (2100-2800m).
4/1. Scenic flight to Mt Everest, sight-seeing around Khatmandu (Swyambhunath temple and Durbar Square).
5/1. Phulchowki, lower levels and adjoining Godaveri Botanic Gardens (1200-2100m); Bagnati River.
6/1. AM - Drive to terai lowlands and Chitwan National Park via Sauraha entrance. PM - Crossed Rapti River for walk along main road to park headquarters. Overnight Green Mansion Jungle Resort
7/1. Elephant and boat rides in Bahgmara Reserve, adjacent to park; walk along Rapti River. Overnight Green Mansion.
8/1. AM - Transfer to Chitwan Jungle Lodge via Meghauli entrance, crossing Narayani River. PM - Walk with (excellent) guides Harka Kumal and Jim Kurra. 
9/1. Elephant ride and walking.
10/1. Transfer by coach to Pokhara lakeside (Baidam) and Hotel Barahi.
11/1. Rice paddies and swamps at northern end of Phewa Tal (900m). Overnight Pokhara.
12/1. Drive to Khande (1400m) for first day of trek in Annapurna Conservation Area. Walk to Deurali (2100m) overnight tea-house.
13/1. Walk to Landruk (1700m) via Tolka. Overnight tea-house.
14/1. Climb tracks above Landruk around Poon (2300m). Overnight tea-house.
15/1. Walk to Nayapool via Birethanti. Drive to Pokhara, overnight Hotel Manaslu.
16/1. Fly to Khatmandu. Drive to Shivapuri Resort (2000m) in the Shivapuri Wildlife Refuge in Khatmandu Valley. Walk on road above resort.
17/1. Drive to Khatmandu after morning walk.
18-19/1. Sightseeing (Bhaktupar, Patan and Nyatala temple) and shopping in Khatmandu.
20/1. Fly to Bangkok

20/1. Connect flight to Chiang Mai in north-west Thailand. Drive to Chom Tong, overnight in hotel.
21/1. Drive to Doi Inthanon National Park. Dry lowland diptocarp forest at kms 9, 11 and 13; montane forests at kms 34 (1500m) and 37 (1800m) jeep trails. Overnight at Ecotourism Lodge (1100m, very basic, at km 26).
22/1. Summit at 2700m (boardwalk around swamp); kms 34 and 37. Overnight Ecotourism.
23/1. kms 34 and 37. Overnight Ecotourism.
24/1. kms 34, 37 and 26. Transfer to Tarntong Guest House outside national park (more comfortable but further to drive).
25/1. Summit boardwalk, kms 34 and 37.
26/1. kms 13 (dry forest), 34, 37 and 26.
27/1. Joined by Nigel and Donna Crook (USA/UK) kms 34, 37 and 32. 
28/1. Walk around Doi Inthanon Highland Resort grounds. Drive to Chiang Mai. Fly home via Bangkok.
