Responsible for providing leadership and direction to physician resource initiatives in order to address physician supply and distribution issues. Duties include: coordinating the development and implementation of the Rural Physician Action Plan, which includes working as a partner with stakeholders such as the Faculties of Medicine, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, the Alberta Medical Association and Regional Health Authorities; developing and maintaining a seven-year plan for postgraduate medical education resources; identifying issues relating to the plan and facilitating ways of resolving the issues; working on a federal/interprovincial basis to develop regional and national strategies for physician resource management, developing options for alternative service delivery in Alberta; and representing Alberta Health on external committees, such as the Clinical Practice Guidelines Implementation Group.

Responsible for developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating a comprehensive human resource planning process for Alberta Hospitals and Medical Care. This involved analysing the existing human resource situation through internal/external environmental scans, forecasting future human resource needs, and developing strategies to meet these needs. Duties included managing the overall systems development for the Division, including the Human Resource Information System; providing consultation to all levels of management to assist in the development of short term, intermediate and long range human resource plans; and working on interdepartmental committees to further the development of human resource planning policies and guidelines for the Government of Alberta.
From April through December 1988, responsibilities were expanded to include management of the Department's corporate planning process. This involved implementing the Results Oriented Management (ROM) Process; assisting branches in setting operational plans and facilitating planning retreats.

Responsible for researching and writing policy option papers for health care issues and cost-containment measures. Managed project teams consisting of members of various branches and/or consultants in the performance of major policy studies. Duties included reviewing legislation related to health care insurance; analysing ad hoc policy and administration issues affecting health care in Alberta; developing a policy framework for the Division; coordinating information for the Divisional planning process; and coordinating Divisional and Inter-provincial retreats and workshops, including the preparation of materials for presentation at those events.
From March through November 1986, responsibilities were expanded to Acting Manager of Planning, Standards and Evaluation Branch. This included providing direction to six professional staff.

Provided consultation to government and non-government groups to determine information needs and to ensure that they were met.
